Growing Ministries While Growing Investments

/files/Images Folder/GrowingMinistriesSS_1.jpgWhenever churches, agencies and individuals like the Rev. Herchel Sheets and his wife, Gladys, invest in the Georgia United Methodist Foundation’s Development Fund, they are helping to grow ministries while growing their investments. Interest-bearing certificates provide a readily available source of funds that allow churches, agencies and entities to borrow money at competitive loan rates.

Sheets, a retired minister who faithfully served the North Georgia Conference under various pastoral appointments and positions for 50 years, has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation’s ministry. According to Sheets, since 2008 he has purchased four certificates because “these investments make good financial and spiritual sense.”

“For one thing, the Foundation is paying better interest rates than the banks that I am acquainted with,” he said. “And second, I like what the Foundation is doing. It’s helping a lot of churches to secure the loans that they need for building programs, improvement of church property and other purposes.”

Frank Craft, the Foundation’s director of lending programs, said, “We’re grateful to the Sheets and all Methodist investors for allowing us to make loans, which enable Methodist entities to fulfill their individual missions.”
